While I am not a huge Paul McCartney fan…I love Natalie Portman and the black and white. I must give Paul McCartney credit for this whole thing…the pacing of the song, the guitar, the beautiful music video. Please enjoy!

Instead of using a new artist to reflect something from the quote I thought I would use the subject matter of today’s quote. All the songs from the Work Soundtrack post were from the Pandora Ray LaMontagne station, and I realized I didn’t even include one song by the man who inspired the playlist. He is one of my all time favorite singer/songwriters and a frequent go-to. His unique and raspy voice always draws me in and never ceases to move me. If you have never heard him, I hope this will be the beginning of a new love affair and for those who already know his amazingness just enjoy another dose!

I finally felt better today (I knew the Lugaw would help!) and had to crawl back into reality…which meant starting back on the data cleanup for my practicum and finishing an assignment for my online class (last class EVER for my MPH! woot woot!) Music always helps along the working process for me, so I thought I would share some of my favorties from my work soundtrack today, provided by Pandora on my favorite “Ray Lamontagne” station. There is something I just love about Pandora. So many times it plays the songs I didn’t know I wanted to listen to until they came on. Smart little program…*smiles*
Otis Redding – “These Arms of Mine” While “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” is a classic…I tend to prefer Otis’ earlier, more soulful songs. He was even bestowed the title “King of Soul”, which was also given to two more of my favorites: James Brown and Sam Cooke. In this song, one can just feeeeel the emotion he poured into it.
Jeff Buckley – “Hallelujah” Originally a song by Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley’s rendition is my all time favorite version of this song. Many people have covered this song but no one invokes the emotion for me in this song like Jeff Buckley (One that came close was in New Orleans @ dba by John Boutté, one of NOLA’s best-kept secrets. He sings the theme song for the AMAZING show Treme on HBO)
Robert Pattinson – “Never Think” RPatz is a completely guilty pleasure of mine, but I truly enjoy his music (what little you can actually find of it) and think he is actually very talented as an actor and musician.

I woke up early this morning and was inspired to cook. I wandered down to the kitchen…the magnolia tree in the back yard is in full bloom so when I opened the back door let some fresh air into the house, I was immediately met with the sweet fragrance from our tree. It was a relaxing morning…I took my time slowly preparing everything (getting great pictures for the future posts to the blog!) and simply enjoying taking a morning off to cook. The luxury of working at home was truly experienced this morning. Trying to be mindful of my roommates, I put on one of my more “quiet”/”mellow” Pandora stations. At some point, the sound of a trumpet caught my attention, and I realized that Louis Armstrong’s version of “La Vie en Rose” was playing, and a smile played across my face. I couldn’t help myself…I just started dancing around the kitchen as I was preparing to bake my apple streusel. My little dog Tanner (a very quirky Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) was very surprised by the outburst and started body wagging (a term I like to use when he gets so excited his whole body “wags” instead of just his tail). I realized that we looked like we were both dancing together. It brought another smile to my face. So, to celebrate the small moments of joy in life … I thought I would share the song…one of my favorites. The video is a performance in Belgium in 1959. I simply have grown up in the wrong era *smiles*
